Administration

Unique Site of Administration
EXCEDE is injected subcutaneously in the posterior aspect of the ear where it attaches to the head (base of the ear). With a simple hands-on demonstration, producers quickly learn how to take advantage of this unique site of administration.

Position the needle. Use a 16 gauge x 1 inch needle or shorter as appropriate for the animal. Align the needle so that it is projected toward the opposite eye as shown. Do not inject in locations other than those indicated on the label.

Dosage details
EXCEDE is available in 100 mL vials and is administered to cattle at a dosage of 3.0 mg CE/lb (6.6 mg CE/kg) body weight (1.5 mL sterile suspension per 100 lb body weight). As with all drugs, the use of EXCEDE is contraindicated in animals previously found to be hypersensitive to the drug. Though safe in cattle when properly given, inadvertent intra-arterial injection in the ear is possible and is fatal. EXCEDE has a pre-slaughter withdrawal time of 13 days.
